SimbiontBlender 0.4

Post by pbridger »

Cross-posted from Elysiun:

Yesterday I rewrote SimbiontBlender. The new version has a number of changes:

- colour tweak preview
- much more flexible mapping of DarkTree output to Blender texture
- ability to remove active DarkTrees
- the script now communicates directly with the plugin dll, removing the need to 'Update' your texture before rendering
- opened DarkTrees are saved in a config file in the .blend

The updated tutorial is in the usual place:
http://ten-ninjas.com/SimbiontBlender/

If you have trouble understanding the new channel mapping the tutorial is the first place to look.

The 0.4 version installer is here:
http://ten-ninjas.com/SimbiontBlender/S ... latest.exe
(You nolonger need to download any dlls separately, this should install everything you need).

Let me know if you have any issues.

Enjoy!

This plugin looks amazing and I have read over the tutorial. The problem I am having is understanding how to connect the DarkTree shader to the object I want it to be displayed on. This section is not very clear to someone (like me) who is not a textures wiz. Perhaps you could include a sample Blend, I always learn best from examples.

Thanks for your work.

Yeah I apreciate the plugin can be a bit confusing.

I want to include a sample .blend, but this is problematic because blender would not be able to load the DarkTrees automatically (if the user has a different install directory than the default).

I'll try to help:
1. Give your object a material. F5KEY, 'Add New'
2. Add a texture. F6KEY, 'Add New'
3. Change the texture type to 'Plugin'
4. Load the SimbiontBlender plugin with the 'Load Plugin' button.
To do this you will need to navigate to your <blender install>/.blender/plugins/SimbiontBlender directory. Open SimbiontBlenderDll.dll in this directory.
5. Open the SimbiontBlender python script. Scripts->Materials->SimbiontBlender
6. Load a DarkTree texture with 'Add Texture'. There are some samples in the plugin directory.
7. Activate the DarkTree colour channel (select Colour in 2nd menu in the Channel Outputs section).
8. Set up camera and render.

Good luck!

can you craete procedual shaders or can you
only use premade shaders in blender with

You can use premade procedural shaders made with the Darktree software, but you'll need the Darktree editor to edit the shaders, or make new ones.

That's odd. :? The DLL it needs is the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime dll. Somehow the way he built it made it require that that dll was with it.

Downloaded msvcr71.dll from the web and saved it to the plugins/SimbiontBlender directory. It works now!
