Absalute Beginner in Programming

Post by ELMER » Thu Jan 09, 2003 11:47 am

HI all,
OK here we go, I want to learn how to program, where do I start.
I love reading this site but you guy's talk in a language I dont understand so I want to learn.
Yesterday I downloaded a program called DEV-C++ and promptly set about working my way through the tutorial, then I stopped and thought
'am I learning the right thing here ?'. I want to learn from the start because I have no programming knowledge, but where's the starting line ?.
I assume that first I must learn C, C++, Visual C++ before I progress to python. Which one to learn first ?.
I suppose what I need is someone to hold my hand and say "Start here".
Any suggestions you have would be very gratefully received, and any good web sites to visit to get good tutoring.

Many Thanks

ELMER

Well, Python is more easy to learn than C or C++.
Further, learning to program will take years of practicing. Where exactly you start is not so relevant. Just do it!

(And just buy a good book on the topic)

If your cheap there are a couple of full c/c++ books you can find online.

Here is a good place to start: http://www.thefreecountry.com/developer ... docs.shtml
