Thanks for the explanation.

Concerning styles: Any time you change any of the materials (which would be considered a "color style"), all objects using that "style" will automatically change. Likewise, you can select several objects (you can make sets of objects by either grouping them, or the layer manager, for example), and then just CTRL-C -> Font settings. So, all in all, I would say styles are definitely in there :-)

Concerning blending modes: it's not easily possible to apply a "blending mode" to a whole object, indeed. Though it is of course possible to make semi-transparent objects, which should be enough in most cases.
