Grafic-Problems on a new MacPro / Solved with OSX 10.4.8-Upd
Hi
I just started with Blender a few weeks ago and it´s fantastic.
So i decided to switch from my old G4 Dual 1.4 to a new mashine,
to get my work faster:
MacPro (Intel) Standardkonfi
OS: MacOSX 10.4.7
CPU: Xeon Dualcore 2.66 x2
GFX: NVidia 7300 GT
Drv.: GeForce 1.4.36
Blender 2.4.2 (Intel)
Iám unable to work right now, becaus every time the mouse is over
an button or textfield, the screen becomes scrambled.
This ca be resetted by using escape or zooming the window, but
it prevents me from normal work.
Can someone confirm or is there a solution.
Is it determined by blender, GFX-driver or OpenGL ?
I would be happy for your help.
Greetings...Jens

Hi
@mpan3: Sorry, but no.
Youré right, seems to be a problem with FSAA.
I tryed to disable it with "openGlprofiler" (dev-tools)
but with no succes yet, don´t know if the seetings where right.
I tried parameters "kCGLPFASampleBuffer" and"kCGLPFASample"
with different values with no effect. Applied it to blender.app.
(source: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php? ... 6215733256)
Then reversed the hint.
Hmm...it shoud be not too hard, to fix it.
In general, blender does as expected and btw:
it is very fast on the MacPro.

I also did a quick google and couldn't find anything related to OpenGL AA setting in OS X. Is there a way to full-screen the blender interface? On windows, at least that's how i got rid of my display corruptions on earlier versions of blender.
ALso, you could try to change the color depth, see if that does anything.

Hi
Fullscreen or colordepth-change does´nt help.
The problem is, there is no Controlpanel like with
ATI cards. So i have to search the parameters myself
and change them with the OpenGLProfiler.
On the other side, Nvidia has no dokumentation
for their Mac-stuff, so i have to browse the developer-
sites of apple, to find the right parameters.
Takes time.....

As you are using this:
http://developer.apple.com/graphicsimag ... image.html
You might be able to find a string called
GL_FSAA_MODE
or
GL_MULTISAMPLE
sorry if I am not one the right track.

Maybe you are right, but i was able to test Cinema4d and Vue and their
are working. It seems it is a bit of both, an incompatibility of blender and
graficsdriver. I´ve seen little glitches in Safari, where the cursor is disapearing under the menue in some areas.
Thats the fun with transitions......
I´ll try to be patient, so OSX 10.4.8 is near release i read, and will bring
updated and then multithreaded GL-drivers.
In the meantime, i will enjoy making music on my new mashine.
Thanks for help to all people envolved so far.

No prob. I see forward to new Apple GL-Drivers.
I really loved blender from the second sight
and will stay tuned.
Iám again impressed what professional piece of SW an
open source-community can develop, so no worry.
BTW, really impressed by "Elephants Dream" too.
I will report if i get it to work on MacPro, whatever the
solution is and thanks for spending time in my problem.
Greetings to all from Hamburg..........Jens

Jens,
a workaround may be found before Apple does a release update, I know that for the last apple bug there was a build that had a workaround.
I'll ask our release manager what his thoughts are, since obviously it would be nice to have a functional blender for mac pros until apple gets it fixed.
