Slow renderings

Post by bobkoonce » Thu Dec 06, 2012 1:53 am

Hello,

I was wandering if there is something I need to do in order to get faster rendering on Blender? I tried different 3d software and found that Blender was extremely slow.

These are the results,

3DS Max 3.1
Box 1x1x1 inch, Transparent, Map material applied, self illuminated.
Plane 11x11 inches, reflective material.
1 Lamp, Omni with shadows on.
1 Omni camera, Target.
Resolution of render 1920x1080.
6 seconds to render.

Blender 2.63a
Initial startup scene
Lamp, Camera, Box 1x1x1x1
Resolution 1920x1080
9 seconds to render.

As you can see the box in 3DS Max 3.1 (with which the version is way out dated 1998) had a lot more in the scene and applied to the models and rendered 3 seconds faster, is there something I need to set in Blender 2.63a to get as fast of rendering from 3DS Max 3.1, how long will it take Blender 2.63a to do the same setup as the one in 3DS Max 3.1 that I did in 6 seconds?

Sascha,

Changing the tiles from 8x,8y to 1x,1y really helped in a single frame render, I'll have to experiment with the other setting.

Thanks,
bobkoonce
