CG shader ...

Post by hdd »

hi to all , i'm new to blender... but not on 3d producion ;)
and this is the first post.... then before go ahead.. GREAT JOB to all dev and coders... :D

now the question...
someone has tryed to include http://graphics.cs.lth.se/pyfx/ as shader display in Blender ?

1) most of the new game use it to shade (I belive)

2) is similar (ralative-simple to port) to RSL shader for a future (I hope ) implementation of a RAYS render...

thanks in advance.

no, and I wouldn't expect it to happen in the official tree of blender first.

people ask frequently for graphics card specific features, and the idea is usually killed very quickly

also, why would Cg be the best approach for blender to take? wouldn't the ati users be disappointed? what about those with intel graphics cards? what about those not running windows?

At some point some game developer might decide blender is the best choice for making their models and to texture it. Then it would be missing new gfx card features and maybe then they might decide to implement some highend features for themselfs and give that back to the community.
On the otherside, gpu programmers are not widely spread, not as much as c++ programmers, once that group is going to grow (no idea if that will ever happen), then surely one will be a blenderhead someday that will join the developers group to implement gpu power.
But for now there are only people asking, not giving.

sorry to ask a totally stupid question, but here goes, what about this shader?
http://rendermanacademy.com/docs/WrapDiffuse.htm could it be implemented into blender? Is it similar to the one in this example http://www.blender.org/cms/Adding_a_new ... 551.0.html?
