A Desert in Blender

Post by Mercator »

I want to make a desert.
I used a noised plane, subsurfaces and smooth drawing, but the problem is that my desert looks like waved plastic. I tried to use Fog to create sand floating araound, but it just looks blurred.

I think my "desert" reflects too much light, but how can I change that? Mirror Transparency is already set to zero.
How can I create a realistic desert?

This place looks good enough, but it could be much better.

And this looks blurred, even without fog:

Here it looks like plastic:

This is really a question for the user forums, eg elysiun.com.

To reduce the amount of shine on the object, try decreasing the specular/spec value. For sand, you could try using particles, with fairly large halo materials to simulate a cloud of dust. For the desert itself, you could google for a sand texture (making sure not to infringe copyright) and stick it onto the object.
The dawn of a new error...

Thank you. It looks much better now. Only Particles are missing:

I want to make clouds with particles, but I only get a white line. How can I create a normal cloud?

Just a white line:
