Is it easy to just pick up BLENDER and start programming in it? I have a lot of experience in JAVA but not too much in any thing else.

Python is a lot easier to just pick up and start programming in, we use it for scripting.

C is more difficult to code in than Java, it really depends on your coding experience on how long it will take you to 'dive in'.
