You can't make a CSS map in blender. Any type of Source Engine maps are made in the Source SDK provided with any Source Engine based game (Hl2, CSS, TF2, etc). Basically, all the geometry, AI, interaction, and map optimization is made in Source SDK. There's some good tutorials on youtube for that, but don't expect to make a good map within... a month (at the least).
What you can make in blender are models for props, weapons, player models, etc.
That will require a plugin from dvondrake to export the models for Source Engine.

Refer to SDK Docs wiki for more info on Source modeling.

You can make breakabe glass in Source SDK itself. Or any other breakable surface, actually.arbiterchewbaccahybrid wrote:How do you make breakable glass in blender?

Ah, that's good. And I'm just making character models
However, I do not have source or the money to grab a copy.
Is there anything for earlier versions? Like 1.6 and CZ?
If not I'm going to have to somehow create such a plugin.... and since I don't have programming experience, I'll probably not finish it for a year XD

just here to work on something.
I don't know the tools for HL1 engine, nor how to get them. But I assume the only way to get them, if they're still available, is the same way as to get Source Engine tools. By buying a game from Valve.
So you have to spend money in some game if you want any of the two. The tools are free to download after that.
But I can tell you that Half-Life 2 Deathmatch is perhaps the cheapest game they have and gives you access to it. You can get the game for free, if you have an ATI or NVIDIA card, but that won't work for the SDK. Free/gift games don't give you access to anything.
From what I've seen in the steam store HL2dm costs 4€ (US $5.65)
Even cheaper than CS.

Is that so? Ah. I guess I can get Source for my birthday-
that would make things easier
Thanks for the tip, though- Guess I have to look around for a job(that way I don't HAVE to pay less) and get it earlier than that, maybe? I don't know.
But again, thanks for the tip.

Half-Life 2 is only around 15€.
I forgot to mention that the content of the sdk (models and textures, mostly) will vary, it will depend on what Valve game(s) you have. If you have hl2dm, then you have a good portion of stuff from HL2, but I dunno how it will work if you want to make a single player mod. I never tried. If you have CSS or TF2, you'll have diferent textures and models from HL2.
In other words, these tools are for modding, so you can only mod a game you have, with the content it comes with.
Of course, you can add your own content.

Having HL2-Episode 2, however, will give you access to the Orange Box (Ep2) engine, which is a little better and the SDK has more functionality.
