control UV texture animation/sequence

Is there a way (Python?) to control the way the UV region moves around the texture when animated?
So, when you create an animated texture map in the game engine I want to be able to click a button and have the UV region move to its next position. Does this question make sense?
I tried posting to the Python board, but got no response.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I think i have exactly what You need. :D
Have a look at my WebPage and look for TileTex5in1. The Setup of the LogicBricks may be a little different now in 2.35, because Blenders internal Timing has changed. But that should be no Problem. There is a DemoFile with some Scenes included.
