Yes, Blender is certainly usable for Machinima.

I originally d'loaded the tools from the site http://www.machinima.com.

I believe that this kit is designed to work with a hacked version of the Quake engine. (It's included in the kit.) Most machinima production kits are designed to work with either the Quake or Unreal engines.

It's not clear to me how you would use this toolkit to make machinima with Blender. I don't think you can and I'm not sure why you would want to. I suppose you could use a machinima production kit to capture a game session from the Blender Game Player, but I don't really see the point since you can use Blender directly to generate the animation, unless maybe you want to save time generating animation by recording an instance of game play.
