Physics cards and Blender physics

Post by LazyCoder »

Hi, I know they're selling computers with these physics accelerator cards, and I was wondering if there are any plans to have Blender interact with these. It would drastically speed up fluid simulations if nothing else.

I don't think it will happen, for several reasons, though I wish it would, so we could have awesome cloth physics :X

1) It would involve implementing Ageia's SDK, which, although free, apparently cannot legally be done with an Open Source application. I do not know if that is true.

2) I would impede Bullet physics.

3) Ageia's fluids aren't really fluids, just a bunch of metaballs moving around.

Not legal for open source? That doesn't sound right to me...

Impede bullet physics? It would replace them if you had the card.

I meant it could handle the calculations.

I don't know if you can dump fluid calculations onto Ageia's chip without using their own fluids which aren't all that great.
