How to "push" objects with the physics engine?

Let's say I want to make an explosion. So how can I make objects with Rigid Body Physics be "pushed" away from an area? It's kind of like the Wind for particles, but how can I do it for non-particles and with Rigid physics in the game engine?

Use an invisible expanding sphere to simulate a shockwave?
