Animatable node parameters

Post by nemyax » Wed Jul 05, 2006 6:34 pm

With the current node system implementation, you can't animate the values of node parameters. Will there be any redesign efforts to make this possible?

But it's not available for shading.
Maybe Python nodes will improve the animation side.

Actually this is fairly easy to do right now! Since the node system is mainly using the previous material/texture data-blocks for its inputs you can use the animatable parameters from those to control you node states. For instance if you create a material and key-frame some alpha values at various times you can then use the alpha output on that materials node to run anything that takes value input. Likewise you can use colors to keyframe vector values, and of course color inputs!

Here is a example blend I made to be sure this really works. Remember that the material keys are also available in the ipo editor, where you can do cool things like set the alpha keys to cyclic-extrapolation...
