I build a SVN blender package every 2-3 days:

You can know the build date in "help->About Blender" menu.
I wish it works on many distros.

Hi, i tested it today on ubuntu feisty.
libHalf.so.4 is what he wants/misses, it should be openexr related, but I didn't find it(just so.2 version)
and - actually I'm really glad for this build, so if I make it running it'll be nice. I like to test new features, but am not yet used to do some building.

I gathered some information for Ubuntu distros here:pildanovak wrote:and - actually I'm really glad for this build, so if I make it running it'll be nice. I like to test new features, but am not yet used to do some building.
Compiling Blender for Kubuntu 6.06 LTS
Could you try these information and report any success in using them. Building Blender is not so difficult, and aiming at it is the purpose of this 'tutorial' (which is more a reminder to myself).
The main difference I note between Eon's method with what is written is that apparently Eon doesn't need to use Make to build ffmpeg, while it seems to be needed on Ubuntu. Eon used 100% Scons, this tutorial uses a mix from Scons and Make.
