I guess it on by default and depends on the scale of the scene. On the big scene I tested, much of it disappears.

Doesn't seem to work for me at all. And the scene shouldn't dissapear anymore than run in an old blender, what SHOULD happen is a slight or large framerate increase versus an old blender if objects are out of view. If you have a large landscape that's just one mesh, there should be no difference, but if you have a bunch of cubes scattered, it should be faster when you only look at a few at a time. I'm not sure why I can't see this working at all for me.
