Blender 2.5 Questions

Post by Paint Guy » Fri Jan 08, 2010 5:11 am

Hi, I am working through Blender and I have com across a number of questions I can't find answers to. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Question 1 - Turning a Path into a Curve Path in Blender 2.5?
In Blender 2.49 if I want to turn a path into a "Curve Path" I select the path and go to editing tools (F9) and in the "Curve and Surfaces" panel it says "Curve Path" which turns the curve into a Curve Path. How do I turn a path into a "Curve Path" in Blender 2.5?

Question 2 - Importing in Blender 2.5?
I tried to import both wavefront .obj and .3ds last night but neither showed up in the outliner or the scene. Has anyone had success importing an .obj or .3ds file?

Question 3 - Rotating an Object in Blender 2.5?
I created an object and then using the transform settings I rotated it 90° degrees, but the object didn't rotate 90° degrees. I then typed in 1.570 into the "X" axis and it rotated the object very close to 90°. How do I set up Blender to rotate objects using 90°?

Question 4 - Resetting the Center Point of an Object in Blender 2.5?
How do I reset the "Center Point" or Pivot Point of an object or curve? Is it still called "Center New" in Blender 2.5 and where is it located in 2.5?

Question 5 - Can I reset curve handles to be of equal length in Blender 2.5?
Q) If I have dragged one handle to be longer than another and I want them both to be equal in length how do I do this in 2.5?

.

Not the answer you want to hear I'm sure but use 2.49 :)

2.5 is a work in progress. Stuff still doesn't work. If your looking
for production stuff use 2.49 you'll be a lot happier.

Thanks Sir Dude! Yes I just found out the rotate is buggy and will be fixed. Love 2.5 and will even more when it is fixed. :)

If anyone has answers to my questions I would appreciate it! Thanks. :)

#2 I'm pretty sure scripts need to be ported yet so your stuck
with 2.49 but you should be able to do it in 2.49 and then import the
blend to 2.5 if you want to work with 2.5.

#4 You should do it by selecting Mesh->Transform->Origin to Geometry
(or one of the other 2 choices depending on what you want to do)
however it will complain that you can't do that while editing the mesh which is a bit goofy since you can only get to the menu when in edit mode. :)

I'm guessing the other issues are similar but haven't looked at them closely...

You should try downloading Alpha 1 (2.51.0) to see if this helps with any of these.

#1 Rotating objects (90° etc) seems normal to me.

#2 Rather simple imported .obj's are showing in my outliner; didn't try any complex ones though.

#4 In object mode select Object > Transform > Geometry to Orgin, etc.

#5 Are you referring to 'h' and 'shift-h' while having the middle of the handle selected (Curve > Control Points > Set Handle Type >)?

Paint Guy:

Question 2 - Importing in Blender 2.5?
Try importing into 2.49 first and then save as .blend. Then append, open or link as needed

Question 3 - Rotating an Object in Blender 2.5?
Works now (since at least v2.5 Beta 1)

Question 4 - Resetting the Center Point of an Object in Blender 2.5?
v2.54
Menu: Object>Transform look at the bottom of the menu
Shortcut: Ctrl+Alt+Shift+c = Linux; probably works in Windows as well
Allows you to move geometry to origin, origin to geometry, or origin to 3D cursor

Check Graphicall. That site has the latest builds.

For other info Wikipedia has links at the bottom of the page for sites that host tutorials:
Blender Nation, Blender Cookie and Blender Artists are just a few.
