Translating Blender
How can I add a missing language (Portuguese) to Blender (Buttons, tooltips...)
Alexandre Rangel
Alexandre Rangel
1. Grab an existing translation file (eg German)
1a. From the Blender source distribution - po/de.po
1b. From webcvs: http://projects.blender.org/viewcvs/vie ... bf-blender
2. Rename it from de.po to XX.po where XX is your country code. Country Codes: http://www.gnu.org/manual/gettext/html_ ... xt_16.html
3. The .po file consists of message ids (in English) and message strings.(translated) eg:
msgid "Start the rendering"
msgstr "Starte das rendern"
4. Translate all the msgstr's.
5. Compile the .po file to a .mo file with msgfmt (from gettext)
6. Copy the compiled .mo file to: .blender/locale/XX/LC_MESSAGES/blender.mo (XX = your country code)
7. Edit .blender/.Blanguages
8. Test.
9. Email your .po file to bf-committers@blender.org
Unless you're on Linux, compiling the .po file (step 5) is going to be the hardest part. I don't know if there is any easy way to get the compiler for Windows without downloading Cygwin. If you don't want to do that, post the .po file and I'll compile it for you.

KBabel: If you are on Linux

Thank you very much, alien-xmp! I´ll work on that and keep you informed.
Well, I mainly work on Win, but have a machine with dual boot to Linux (Kurumin, a Brazilian distro of Knoppix). If I compile on Linux, will the .mo work on Windows too?
- Just read that .mo´s are compiled... so I guess they won´t work on Win if compiled on Linux...

We do the italian translation and for win you can use poedit.sourceforge.net
it make also the .mo file but i dont know if it is valid for blender
do not translate OneWordTerms most of them are for internal use
the .mo linux version is valid for Win too as i know
you can download the it.po which is the only one translated at this time
can help a lot

I have added Portuguese to tuhopuu2 cvs.
Wow - you Italian translators have gone all out - it looks like guys have done a much more complete translation than anybody else. If anyone wants to start a tranlation, you want to base it on it.po
.mo files should be portable to other OSs - by compile, it doesn't actually make cpu code, it just indexes it to make it fast to lookup.

Yes, the Italian version is really good.
Kino, can I use the 1.3 po file as a basis for my work? Is it already done not translating OneWordTerms?? How can I spot those and not translate?
Í got to use poedit. The good thing is that it generates a valid .mo for Blender on the fly.
Alien-XMP, since you are already posting our .mo to Tuhoppu, i state something I forgot: that translation is for Brazilian Portuguese (a little different from Portuguese)
.
I´ll work on a more complete version now, based on the Italian team work.

Italian .po file??
Give me a direct link please, I want to make a Greek translation based on the Italion.po because the German.po doesn't covers all terms.
Yes the poedit do the job and creates valid .mo files. Thank you kino!!!

Hi all
soory for the late reply
Thanks all
was a big work
thanks to point at the file arangel
infider here is the direct link, you can use at your own risk
http://projects.blender.org/viewcvs/vie ... bf-blender
at the time of 2.28 i have added and corrected some terms but no one have committed (i think), here is the link to .po and .mo (not tested)
http://kino3d.com/blender-i18n-i/it.po.mo.zip
if someone can update the file with the new commands i can update the it.po
for the new 2.3, but Ton said there is no coder is working on the localization system at the moment
