Link Vs Append

Post by j kaulfers » Thu Jan 24, 2013 6:06 pm

What is the differance between linking and appending a file to an exsisting project?

“Append” puts a copy of the selected data into the current document, “link” puts a link (“proxy”) back to the original document. You’ll notice you can’t edit the proxy.

Thanks, but given the length of time for the response I already figured it out. In short a linked object will have to be changed in the original file, something one may not want to do.

By using append we are really creating a duplicate of the object and placing it in our active UI, we can than do what ever we want to it with no ill effects on the original.

I have no Idea why they just didn't use the word "COPY" rather than Append with a little description as you hovered over it saying "Copy objects from another file"
