no captions

i am just a new user to blender, and i downloaded it yesterday on my asus eee pc, but when i open the program, the buttons don't have captions? there aren''t any letters on the buttons, does this have anything to do with my clock speed or ram?

Most likely, this is from your video driver not doing OpenGL well. Updating the video driver from the manufacturer's website often helps.

Also, playing with the display settings sometimes helps. You might try turning down hardware acceleration.
