Would anyone know how I can add the same double density mesh pattern of the cube in this youtube video to my own objects in Blender?

Is it a simple "click and apply" feature or do I have to build it? I know the material in the video is not being offered by shapeways anymore but I would like to experiment with it on my own.
Also is the "mesh" of objects referred to in Blender the same mesh pattern of a printed object? Or is the "mesh" reference in Blender strictly for editing.
I just downloaded Blender yesterday and I absolutely love it. There is still a lot I have to learn about 3D rendering (like adding mesh patterns) but I'm learning by leaps and bounds already.
Thank you!
