The right direction would be to not use the 64 bit version at the moment. From the source code:

why is it that supporting new winds features never seems to be a priority with blender. There always seems to be a nose in the air thing when it comes to windows.

This has nothing to do with windows. This has to do with 64bit support on all platforms.
