Hello all,

I ran the following script:

cd ~/blender-svn/build; svn up ../blender; make -j3; make install

I get this error after it finishes compiling:

Install the project...
-- Install configuration: "Debug"
-- Installing: /opt/blender/bin/blender
CMake Error at source/creator/cmake_install.cmake:40 (FILE):
file INSTALL cannot copy file "/home/myname/blender-svn/build/bin/blender"
to "/opt/blender/bin/blender".
Call Stack (most recent call first):
cmake_install.cmake:40 (INCLUDE)

Can't say I understand what could be causing this I compiled using the tutorials found on this link and had no issues on my other machine. This is the link: ... leshooting ... untu/CMake ... eatorLinux

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. So far I'm learning a lot about what goes on under the hood through learning the Python language.

Best Regards,

First guess says you do not have write permission to /opt.

Hello Stiv,

Well, what is the correct way to enable write permissions to

I thought I could simply do:

sudo cd ~/blender-svn/build; svn up ../blender; make -j3; make install

however, I received the error that this command was not found.

I know that I'm able to just simply type

su -

prior to entering the command, but won't that cause issues down the line. Thanks so much for the quick reply.
