when I looked through the viewcvs version i noticed that there is no blender/obj/windows/extern/qhull/user.o. is this some makefile or something that needs to be updated?
any thoughts?

ZanQdo:

cc1 is an internal part of gcc - check your cygwin installation.

SamAdam:
You need to post the *first* error message, not the last, since the last error could be caused by the first error.

blender/obj/windows/extern/qhull/user.o is the output of the file it was trying to compile to.

well, on win ME the command line is command.exe, not cmd.exe like in winXp, and that means that I can't scroll it to view previous entries. It happens so fast that I can't catch it.

I am in the process of installing Mandrake on my other computer to do some Linux builds. Should be easier.

Can you please tell me what you did? I've been having a similar problen recently. ("as" instead of "cc1") Reinstalling Cygwin didn't fix it.

as is also part of gcc (the assembler.) It should be part of the binutils package.

You can redirect the output with:

make > make.log 2>&1

which you can use if you can't scroll back anymore.
