Windows 64 support...

Post by A2597 »

Hey all,

Great job on 2.37!

Just a quick question...in about 2 weeks I'll be getting a new system, a dual core 64bit windows system to be precise.

Looking at some post here, it seems blender and 64bit doesn't get along very well yet, so I'm just curious, any estimate (Even a simple ballpark figure) as to how long before blender will run on Windows XP Smothly? Or is it already?

Thanks All!!

have you tried blender on xp-64?

blender works very well on 64 bit platforms, but windows is a little different the sizes of several data types aren't the same as other platforms in xp-64.

I probably couldn't explain this as well as ton or theeth

well anyway, possible: yes
been done yet [windows xp-64]: no... not that I know of

linux 64 bit works, osx 64 bit isn't an option [libraries for windows and such aren't 64 bit], sparc/irix have run blender in 64 bits for some time

Microsoft said they won't make 64 bits version of their openGL library, so it's very doubtful that you can correctly compile and link a 64 bit blender on windows.

Doesn't Win-64 include a 32-bit mode where you run your 32-bit applications?

I have a AMD 64 mobo/cpu/ram upgrade comming tomarrow in the mail, but I'm not even going to touch WinXP64. From what I have heard, it's buggier than 3 day old roadkill.
