Well, I think it depends on how long the thing is you want to edit if it would be wise to use blender. Blender is not bad as a "after effects" substitude, but if you are looking for a "premiere / final cut pro" alternative then better google again. I believe there are pretty good alternatives around for any Operating System.

Ask some users at blenderartists.org what they think of blender as a video edit tool (as in dv footage, not a cgi-footage edit tool). Then you might want to list some requests here at this developers forum on how to improve blender as a video edit tool,... then again, it's a 3d virtual world creation tool, so don't push it ;)
