Shader Node workflow improvements

I love the shader node system in Blender. But it could use some major improvements. Most noteable is the requirement of a full material node simply to mix textures. The addition of a texture node would be a big improvement.

Not to mention access to all node properties from within the node system. Including the individual properties ie. displacement, color, etc all accessible within the node interface without accessing the material panels.

I would like a 2d and a 3d IPO time curve that I can connect to any Node input.
