I have vista

Post by Honeybiscuit »

I was told that the only way blender will work on vista is through the 64 version. How do I install it since it doesnt have the installer provided or a default. There are so many files Im confused.

Just unpack the .zip somewhere and start the blender.exe program. You'll may have to install the C++ redistributable files that are linked on the download page in the note: box under the 64bit download of Blender. (If you get "Application failed to initialize..." or something similar).

Also running Vista

You only need to worry about the 64 bit install if you are using the 64 bit version of Vista.

I am using Vista 32 bit and had no trouble installing Blender and getting it running on my machine using the 32 bit installer.

If you are unsure whether you are using 32 or 64 bit, go to:

Control Panel > System

Under the "System" header, in this section you should find:

"System Type: XX-bit Operating System" - where XX will read either 32 or 64, and thus you will have your answer.

I hope this is of some use :)
