How to Delete an Edge but not Faces in Blender?

Post by Paint Guy » Wed Feb 10, 2010 9:24 am

Hi, can someone please tell me how to delete an edge in Blender without deleting the faces.

Heres how it's done in Cinema 4D - Please See Image Link

In Cinema 4D if you want to delete an edge you simply:
1) Select the edge
2) Select "Melt" and the edge is gone! Very easy!

In Blender every time I select an edge and press "X" and select delete "Edge" it deletes the faces too. Very frustrating.

If you select the faces on either side of the edge then press "F" it will sort of do the same thing, but it is weird to select the faces when you want to delete the edge. Is there any way I can just select the "Edge" and delete the edge without selecting the faces?

Thanks

2.49 doesn't have a dissolve edge function, but you can use either Alt J which converts selected triangles to quads (there is also a Join Triangles button in the Mesh Tools panel, or use X -> Edge Loop but this only works well with proper loops.

Blender 2.49 only supports trianges and quads. Not N-Gons. So the only edges you can dissolve is either an edgeloop, or an edge between two triangles.

To dissolves the edge between two tris, select both adjoining faces and press F
