I want to create a 16 or 32 bit depth map (z buffer) from some geographical elevation data that I have. Can blender do this?
Can it a) important my elevation data, assuming I can process it into the right type, and b) allow me to position the camera and export a depth map from that viewer, so that each pixel in the image corresponds to the terrain's distance from the camera?
If it's easy to do that please let me know and I'll download it! Thanks
Potential user: can I creat depth map from elevation matrix?

well, I can't answer your questions directly, since I never messed with these tools, but I know it's possible.
This video shows one of the ways to do it (tho I don't know if this is exactly what you're asking for)
