Does Blender Support Heightmaps?

Post by phantom887 » Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:45 pm

This may be in the wrong category, I can't tell. Sorry if it is.

I just wanted to know if Blender supported the ability to apply a heightmap to your textures for use in bump and parallax mapping.

Thanks in advance!

If u mean want your texture to produce height variations on your mesh, then yes. There is way to do that in Blender.

With your object selected, add a modifier "Displace" from the modifier menu.
Here, give the texture which has the image to be used for height mapping.

Well, its actually not exactly what I was talking about, but it sounds a hell of a lot simpler than what I originally was looking to do. Thank you!
