the new gui, python and a gui builder

Post by verence »

first, i love the new look. i was always a fan of proprietary guis when it comes to applications you work for hours with, especially when it's a graphical app. imagin blender with boring native gui elements, like the mfc.

second, there was a note that the python access is to be discussed, so here are my 2 cents:

i would like to see when the general style of access stays the same (these callback functions like Draw.Button). cause there is also access to openGL calls, the style should be the same for blender elements (state machine). maybe some additional blender states (like button colors) could be added. i also think the file selector should be more customizable (set file type, set starting dir).

i think this 'low-level' gui api is fine, cause it enables one to build 'hi-level' toolkits round it. i did so, made a small WYSIWYG gui builder that also works for the new gui:

http://www.elektrolite.com/btk_gui/

it saves/loads to/from source files.

cu,
verence (or corban if you like :D )
