What Tool Would/Should I Use?

Ok so I am just starting out at blender and i need help with making something round.
Here is the download for what I'm making.


I need to make the x and y axis round without deforming the top, bottom or making it thinner.
What tool would i use for this?

You mean, you want the shape to be more rounded perpendicular to its thinnest dimension, while still maintaining sharp edges at the top and bottom sides?

Normally this would be a piece of cake: apply an edge-split modifier with an edge angle just under 90°, followed by subdivision surface to smooth out the unsplit edges.

Unfortunately, the problem is, your mesh has triangles in it, so the subdivision surface modifier introduces irregularities into the smoothness of the shape in those places.
