Simplifying a cad model mesh

Post by sancelot » Wed Jun 13, 2012 5:52 pm

Hi everybody

I would need to simplify a 3D mesh file exported to render slp / file format from proengineer cad system.
The model will then be used in a simulation's software, so I do not need what is inside the model.

Are there any tools available that permit to remove / simplify any facet that is inside the model.

I'm not quite sure I follow what your asking.

I've found most cad export have multiple duplicate verts, so editing it, selecting all the verts, hitting 'w' and clicking remove doubles.

From there, depending on the structure of your model, you could de-select all the verts, and (hopefully) hover over one of the exterior verts and hit 'l' and it 'should' select only the verts connected with that one (ie the outside surface). You could then hit 'p' to separate it from the rest of the mesh.

Good luck
