Exporting to XNA with textures.

Hi, i am new to blender and i am trying to export a simple model to a .fbx file in order to import it into my XNA project. i have applied a texture to the object within blender and can see it on-screen. however, when i export it and then import it into XNA i am seeing no textures. i have looked inside the .fbx file and there is no reference to a texture. am i doing something wrong?
