Proposal: more ways to use mouse for numeric value adj.

I think in many places it is hard to adjust numeric "button" or slider values with mouse, usually numbers adjust too much up or down, like lamp shadow end range, small mouse movement adjust it by 10 or more.
(I'm really sorry if this is already implemented.. I have missed that then.. ;))

My proposal is to add more scale to the mouse movement when adjusting numeric "button" values, now sliders or button width is so narrow sometimes that it is hard to adjust values with a mouse precisely.
This could be done by mousewheel, when a mouse cursor is on top of button or slider you could use mouse wheel to adjust the value of numeric button or slider. Mouse wheel + shift could offer 10x resolution fof even more precise adjustment.
Other way could be by freezing a mouse cursor when pressing a left mousebutton, now you could use as much real mouse movement (not just 20 pixels in screen) as needed to adjust the slider/value. For example one mouse x movement unit equals +-0.1 in numeric button if scale is 0-100.

Makes any sense??

Hold down the SHIFT key and left-click the text portion of the slider and you can use the keyboard to type a specific value.

If you drag on the slider while holding Ctrl, Shift or Ctrl-Shift, you have different degrees of precision.

1/2  still, any chance for mouse wheel addition? I feel it would add usability even more.

Jogi is on the right track. It may be a PITA to do this but the following would really make scaling and positioning fly:

1. X, Y, and Z each appear in a box resembling the odometer of a car.
2. Hovering the cursor over any INDIVIDUAL COLUMN [ie:. 1's, 10's, 100's etc. as well as the three decimal places] activates that column
3. Now by "wheeling" up or down, one can scroll through the digits 1-0 quickly and cleanly.
4. Hit an <<accept>> button to close out fields.

Would this be complex to implement? The idea is to reduce the dancing to and fro between the mouse and the numkeypad.

Recent versions of Tuhopuu allow you to use the mousewheel for numeric button input.
I added this a month ago, but still wonder if it's really usefull.

I would love to see an option in the preferences for 'Always use numeric input'. If you're used to XSI or Maya, you are way faster that way (XSI and Maya only support numeric input, BTW). And pressing Tab when an input field is selected should switch to the next input...
