Uv mapping

Maybe it is a good idea to make a button for UV-mapping,

Fit Textures to Faces

so that you won't have to scale your textures but that the vertex points will fit in the corners!

you'll have to show me, that made no sense whatsoever

(though I am not much of a blender developer that would do this, I don't think they would understand either)
