Feature Request: An embedded Notes tab or window

Post by oliver.kellow » Sun Sep 29, 2013 4:56 pm

I often want to record and save measurements and design notes while modelling.

Similar to the contextual and technical notes often attached to say a schematic, or just a hideable window object that i can type in, copy paste etc.

Perhaps a mod of the code window? It must persist through saves of course, and billboard like the reference images.

The text object is not at all satisfactory for this particular purpose.

Forgive me if this exists- please shoot me the details!!

Cheers!

Blender's internal Text Editor. This is exactly what it was originally created for.

well there's the text editor, you could split your view3d and open a new text block next to it. Then type your notes in there. Of course, this isn't as convenient as "floating" notes in 3d view directly.

If you're fine with handwriting, you can use the grease pencil tool.

I looked a bit into grease pencil API, and think it would be possible to create an addon that would convert text from an input field into grese pencil strokes - nicer than handwriting i guess ;)

Someone would have to create line data for every letter though, probably ascii only, but still a lot of work. Would do this as a paid job if you want.
I'm sitting, waiting, wishing, building Blender in superstition...
