Preserving aspect ratio when unwrapping.

Post by cjddmut » Wed Oct 23, 2013 11:19 am

I've just started with blender and it's my current goal to create a relatively simple 3d model and then appropriately texture it. So what I've done is created a chair and now I'd like to texture the chair in Photoshop. What I've been trying to do is UV map the chair so I can export the map to photoshop and then texture on the map. However, I can't figure out how to unwrap sections of my chair without stretching to the height of the image created in the UV editor.

Ideally I would like the keep the ratio so that the texture won't be stretched (or shrunk in this case) once it is applied on the model.

Thanks!
C.J.

The solution is to go into Object Mode and hit Ctrl-A and pick option "Scale". This fixes it but I have no idea why :(.

The Minimize Stretch operator might help, or try UV Smart Project with angle of 0 (iirc), so every face will be an island.
I'm sitting, waiting, wishing, building Blender in superstition...
