3DS MAX Bones > Blender

Post by ideasman » Thu Feb 26, 2004 8:35 pm

Hi, I maintain a 3DS Max ASE importer for Blender.

Im looking at importing bones from max now and was wondering if there are any major differences in the way MAX handles bones?

Blender now comes with a bone exporter to Cald3D than handles bone information, and the Torque Game Engine released a series of Python scrips (look at then news section here) that can import Blender bone information. The same engine can work with 3D Studio Max and Milkshape characters (both use bones), so there you have a 2 working examples on how to handle bone/armature data.

My 2 cents.

You may not have used it, but it contains all the info to get ASE out of blender...

I can also say that the differences are simple..

armature=bones....

all you need is to get an exported file from the original program, and then take a look at it in notepad.

The problem is that 3DS MAX dosent export bones/armetures whatever. it simply dosent.

Ill need to use another format to pull in the bone info.
