Hi,

I have a Latitude 830 and am having all sorts of problems from the selections tools not working properly to the rendering being completely non existant.

Go a funny feeling laptops and blender don't mix really. :D

I am not sure if this will help, I am a newbie to Blender and so far loving it, but anyway Blender 2.5's upcoming features will allow customization of hotkeys.. but until then maybe try attaching a cheapo external USB keyboard to see if this fixes anything.
Good Luck!

In the regular object mode, or even edit mode, there is a menu titled "view". If you choose from there, you can find camera on that list, as well as any other views you may need. I use this as opposed to ctrl + whatever, because I don't have a number pad on my laptop either.
