break a mesh's 'relationships' to another mesh

This is in regards to a problem I'm having with the Fiber2 script, I have posts at the end of this thread at Elysiun.

What I think I need to do is separate a piece of mesh, duplicate, and then somehow break all relationship between that mesh and the one it came from; as if I simply added it to the scene manually.

If you check out the Elysiun thread, I'm having problems with Fibers not following the guides on any piece of my model; they work fine on primitives that I add to the scene.

I may be on the wrong track, but its all I can think of. :?


edit: Are there any formats that I could export and import to get the results I want?
