Feature request: Save and shutdown after finished rendering

Post by ElBarto »

most people have the same problem, just geting one PC to render instead of a renderfarm. So rendering the final in HQ in full resolution is mostly done over night. So rendering took maybe 2 hours and you go to bed for 8 hours. So your computer is still on power for 6 unnecessary hours.
I would be nice if Blender could have an option that saves the rendering to a given file name and directory (just now you can only setup file format and quality) and shut down the computer after successfull rendering and saving.
The idea comes from the burning software Nero that has such a option. I know it could be easy implimented on Windows but i do not know if it is hard or impossible on other OS.

You can use the command line options to do a background render.

blender -b example.blend

I'm pretty sure everyone's os has it setup so they can specify the computer should shutoff after X minutes of idle time.

you can schedule events under windows. theses can be, among others, running programs with parameters and shutting down.. you'll need this service to be running in order to use it

Yeah this is something that would best be done externally.

if you have a batch script to render, shutting down is by no means a problem

Code: Select all

shutdown -s
now that wasn't so hard was it?
[btw, that will give a 30 second countdown by default, and will not force programs to quit, the -f option however would]
