custom render settings

Post by luppa » Sat Sep 04, 2004 2:38 pm

There are many settings for render size (PAl, NTSC, Default, Preview.... etc.) This is good, but i think it would be useful to have some custom settings. You would have something like four different 'custom'-buttons, that would control different render-settings. They would remember, in addition to the size-settings, the anti-aliasing, internal renderer/yafray, raytracing on/off and shadow on/off settings.

And, especially when using yafray, they would remember the different settings inside yafray, like how many photons to shoot, what quality to use etc.

It takes a lot of time now to change the settings. I change them quite a bit, I usually make quick "preview"-renders, before rendering them with good quality. Then back to the preview-settings. Any thoughts?

broken has been playing with a system for custom render settings by means of python scripts: http://mke3.net/archives/2004/07/python_presets.html

Thanks, that looks very promising. I have to test it and maybe I'll even start to learn python scripting myself :)
