would possibly slow down the preview enormously. I dont know if this is true but I hardly think so.

I dont see why this shouldent be an option- And It shouldent slow thintgs down that much- not a bad idea.

Just see how transperency is used in edit mode-

i think its a very good idea and i think that it would be the same case
to see uv texture in edit mode
to do:

-to see transparency in 3dview
-to see uv texture in edit mode

I've been wanting this for some time now. I'm doing architectural stuff (a.k.a. buildings ;) ) So it would be a huge improvement for me. I now sometimes put my glass objects in wireframe draw mode. Maybe this option should be in the row of draw extras buttons.

Can't most OpenGL cards do this without difficulty? If Blender's 3D display is strictly OpenGL, and we already have transparent widgets in the GUI, how much of a pain would it be to draw Alpha'ed objects with the OpenGL transparency commands?

Two things should be no problem to display in OpenGL:

- textures, and I mean all textures, not only UV-mapped ones (I wonder when it will happen, 'cause I'm sure it WILL HAPPEN)
- z-transparency

These things would really ease work with Blender a lot.

So, when will it happen? :?:

you'r talking about baking texture.
This is something we still need in gameengine too. a 2 in 1 shoot. though i was asked more than once.

i think he has realise that alot of the stuff he is asking for is starting flame wars, well sorta. i dont think he should change them, he should do what bart has done, start a single thread, and have his on feature proposal on his own web space, with mock up images and that.

this is my last Posts in this Forum so i dont loose any more my Time to think about Blender! Others can do it better and give better Examples (Documentation-Images-PrintScreens-Demos-Links-Proposals..... !)

How very true.
But if you are infected with the blender virus it's very hard to find a cure.
And you are always welcome back.

I'am waiting a long time for this features :?
when am was working with maya I allways use transparent model for modeling.
look at edit mode there it is, but like different type that we talk about.
