Merge Edge&Face?

Post by lucky3 » Wed Oct 27, 2004 11:44 am

hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to merge edges or faces, rather than just vertices. Therefore, I don't know if it may be coded :? , but it would be a useful in some cases. What do you think?

Can you give example on when usefull?

I tried but think Ngons are needed to remove edges and faces.
Whats the point? Objects don't show the planar edges.

In the cvs version we now have f-gon's that you
can create by selecting coplaner faces and hitting f

(f is for fake and or f$*$%^*'d depending on your point of view) ;)

Ok, i'm gonna show you examples:
This is what i mean with with Merge Faces:

and with Merge Edges:

These pic were done by merging the vertices, obviously :) , but merging faces or edges would have been easier.

COOL !
Thanks for the examples, I'm all for it.

In blender terms I think this is "remove doubles" and not merge.
I see you used: "blend in center". Another option could be "snap to active".

on the merge face feature:

I've coded this a while ago, and so did ideasman (in python) but it never made it out of tuhopuu. Main problem is the control of the merge, you can either choose for an automated merge (closest face corners merge) or a very controlled merge (indicate wich corner should go to which corner).

just thought I'd mention.

Thanks for your responses!

Hum, if you hit "W" in EditMode, you can see the 'Merge' tool in the 'Specials' menu. It merges vertices: at cursor or at center. I thought we could use the same tool/term for faces and edges.

Yes, I've seen your cool "Bridge" tool in tuhopuu indeed, but this is not exactly the same thing. Here, faces (or edges) are merged, not 'connected'. Keep up your good work!

I want to rejuvenate this topic, I have benn using Blender for some time, but now I need to do something specific, which I can only do with face merging.

I have tiled hexagons, lots of them, and need to select certain individual tiles, problem is, when in edit mode you have hundreds of triangles causing all sorts of optical illusions.

All I need is to merge the 6 sections into 1, a 6 sided face.

I have been working on this problem for 3 days, only to find its not supported?

And I see its not even going to be implemented in 2.46

fgons (fake ngons) probably do what you want - select the triangles, press fkey.

No, they do not, 1 problem Fgons is that 1 sector needs to be left open the other 5 sector faces can be merged.

Merging Edges

Post by Spenc » Tue May 08, 2012 7:29 am

I would like rejuvenate this topic yet again.

What I'm looking for is a way to merge two separate edges into 4 at their cross section (At a point where they are touching). To do this a Vertice would have to be added at the point where both edges cross, and then rejoined to the end vertices.

I'm sitting, waiting, wishing, building Blender in superstition...
