Faces visualization mode

Post by bertram »

Am I the only one who wishes back the old way in which faces were visualized in editmode?
Granted the new way looks much more fancy than the old one looked, but I very much miss clearness in which face belongs to which group of vertices.
Also granted that the addition of the new face selection mode helps seeing if there's a face or not.
But still I find the old way clearer because the geometry of the face is shown.
And if I ask for the option to choose the way in which faces are visualized in the editmode, then this is no cry for a whole new feature.
What do you think it?
Am I really the only one?

First image shows obviously more information then the second one.

Yes! Thanks!
In the second one I can hardly see if only either the front or the back side of the cube has faces, or if all sides have faces. Now imagine another few faces behind the cube and you won't see anymore how many faces there are one behind the other. And you will less than ever be able to tell which face belongs to which verts/edges...
The first image shows the geometry of the face and this is indispensable in many situations.

while I do agree that more information is shown, I think that this loses moch of its efficiency when you have a model with 1000 tiny faces. I think that the faces being darker to show multiple face depth works fine.

so why dont you show a screenshot with the new modes also?
don't only show what is shown in vertexmode, but also the other modes...

now you can have face/edge/vertex mode all at once :)
and the faces are now shown with the a small dot that can be resized in the themesettings...."3D View" --> "Face dot size"

hmm...

I don't agree. With the actual system, if a face was missing, you would clearly see it because the model would look more transparent. It is not complicated to remember what color correspond to the number of overlapping faces. And if you have lots of faces, it is still clear, because a lighter spot is obvious. With the previous system, all that wires confuses rather than give information in my opinion.

It is rather a question of practice than usabilty
