Problem with importing .DXF and .EPS!!

Post by Davinator »

I tried to import a .DXF or .EPS file from "Corel Draw" into Blender 2.35
but when imported, the programm does not show or open the file.
How can i let the programm show this file when its imported?

Please Help

DXF files are often in a scale that exceeds the working area of blender.
So try the following procedure:
After Importing is done press AKey to select 'A'll objects (even if in the view nothing happens). Next press SKey to 'S'cale the selection. After pressing SKey move the mouse pointer closer to the middle of the screen to make the selection scale down.
You should see some objects after scaling down. If not repeat the procedure of downscaling (without the AKey).

BTW: You didn't open the file under the file command "Open", did you? You chose "Import" --> "DXF ..." under the file menu, right?!

Well, opening or importing a dxf file does exactly the same thing, so that's nothing to worry about.

About the eps thingy. I have tried quite some eps files, both downloaded and self made, with different software etc. And I haven't yet found a single file that opened.

About the DXF thingy, bertram is right. It's because most cad programs work with millimeters, blender's dxf importer assumes that your unit is meters. So bertram's workaround works, but it's better to set the units to meters in Corel Draw, so you won't loose any precision.

I don't know how Corel Draw works, but if you still don't see anything in blender, first try to ungroup, desymbolize things in Corel Draw. Blender seems to have trouble importing groups inside groups. And maybe even convert everything to plain lines before exporting. I have a complete ritual for this when I export a drawing from VectorWorks.

I hope sometime the dxf importer will be updated. Because there IS support for groups and even for symbols in the importer, but it doesn't always work.

Give it a try,

Make sure those curves are 3d and you'll be able to see them. By default they are 2d. You will only see closed loops/shapes curves.
