Collada 3D format ?

Post by noselasd »

I was just reading this: http://home.btconnect.com/hgi/ps3/ps3overview.html
about the Playstation 3 supporting the Collada 3d format - detailed more at
http://www.equinox3d.com/collada.html . Looks to be an open standard for 3D formats.
Which is where blender should come in/keep an open mind on possibly"supporting" it in on way or another - standards can be nice.

Any thoughts ?

Is it a truly open format?

Could the copyright holders stop the development of a Blender version? Or demand royalty payments. Like the the jpeg patent holders who got about 20 million somethings out of a surprised Sony?

Besides my suspicions it does look promising. Especially for for games companies that might port games to different platforms.
