no UV distortion with subdivsurf

how far is it possible to give the subdiv code the option to work with UVs without distoring them?

poly objetcs are easyt o texture but when i turn on subdiv well the UV gets
messed up and a convert to mesh isnt a big option cause tha i have to deal with to many poly faces.

I believe that has been done in the orange branch, and thus will be in 2.41

It's not in the orange branch. The patch is in the tracker, still waiting for some feedback. You can ask the testing build makers to apply it of course.

wow there is already a patch and it is not included?
is the code bad or why isnt it in 2.4?

distortion free UV with subdivsurf should have a high
priority. can the patch just be applied?

blendix (the author of the patch) stated already that he is waiting for feedback on the code :) The patch happened after CVS freeze, so like many other wonderful patches will need to wait for 2.41. He is the primary author of the lscm and other uv mapping stuff. I'm sure it will be scheduled for review at the next meeting, and likely committed not too long after that...

Also, unless you know how to poke people in just the right way, patches can languish in Patch Tracker Purgatory for a long time...

I'm making New Years Resolutions and one is to make sure Patch Tracker is as well maintained as Bug Tracker :)
